We have opportunities to practice nursing in our hospital and clinic in Iqaluit, our regional health centres in Rankin Inlet and Cambridge Bay, as well as in our community health centres. Community Health Nurse

The community health nurse assists clients in the promotion, protection and restoration of health. They provide comprehensive community health services in collaboration with the health care team. To be considered for a community health nurse position, you will need a bachelor of science in nursing (BScN) or an approved equivalent, plus a minimum of 1-2 years recent application of nursing theory and nursing practice in an acute care hospital or community health setting. Registration with the RNANT/NU and basic CPR with annual certification is also required. Additional requirements are listed in each job posting in the Current Opportunities section of this website.

Home Care Nurse

A home care nurse provides nursing and support services to the elderly, chronically ill and disabled clients. To be considered for a home care nursing position you will be required to have a nursing diploma or BScN, valid CPR certification, current or eligible for RNANT/NU registration, a valid driver’s licence, two years of experience and the ability to work in a cross-cultural setting.

Public Health Nurse

The public health nurse assists clients in the protection, restoration and promotion of health to prevent and reduce the incidence of disease, disability and death. To be considered for a public health nurse position you must have a BScN or approved equivalent plus a minimum of 1-2 years application of nursing theory and the nursing process in public health or related environment. You will be registered with or eligible for registration with the RNANT/NU, have a current CPR certificate and a valid driver’s licence.

Registered Nurse – Ward

Ward nurses provide obstetrical, pediatric, medical/surgical and palliative care to inpatients. Shifts are 12 hours on a rotational basis. Ward nurses require a nursing degree with a minimum one year recent broad-based acute care nursing experience and a current CPR certificate. Obstetrical and pediatric experience is preferred.

Operating Room Nurse

Perioperative nurses provide care in the operating room, post anesthesia care unit and day surgery. Perioperative nurses require a registered nurse diploma or degree, current CPR, current ACLS and at least one year of operating room experience. Postgraduate, perioperative training is an asset.

Emergency Nurse

Nurses who work in the emergency/outpatient department provide care to patients on an emergency basis and to ambulatory patients on an outpatient basis. A nursing degree and a current CPR certificate with a minimum of two years recent acute care nursing experience, including at least one year of emergency experience, is required. Preference is given to nurses who have completed courses in patient assessment, trauma management, ACLS and PALS.

Other nursing opportunities, such as supervisor, clinical educator, midwife, nurse practitioner and/or specialized nursing such as a psychiatric nurse are also available.
